Welcome to Spring

…And to Spring Fashion! Try wearing cool colors this spring while keeping warm during chilly nights. A leather jacket in light hues like  grey and ivory go well with the season.

Syle WOo

We had a lovely time in Austin this past weekend and I got lucky on Saturday with beautiful weather. Not too hot, not too cold and the sun shining bright! Perfect for pictures and this spring outfit! The crops are light for warmer temperatures but with enough coverage to keep you warm on spring chilly nights.

We went to the Salt Lick on Saturday night and when the sun went down I was ready with this leather jacket. During the hotter times of the day it was so easy to slip off the jacket and show off this embellished crop top. ( Crop tops are so very in this spring and summer.)

I have been looking for the perfect top to pair with this mini for about 2 years and I finally found it! A comfy cropped sweater takes this mini from sexy to relaxed winter style.

My husband and I found this little oasis in our soon-to-be (We close on our house this Thursday!) new neighborhood. I was so excited we were able to capture that day’s winter sun shining down beautifully on the trees and little stream. The earthy tones in this outfit make me feel connected with my surroundings and at ease.

I LOVE movies! I love going to the movie theater, getting a bag of popcorn, a drink and settling down for a good movie. Better yet I love going to midnight showings. They come with a different energy and the audience always seems more engaged. So it is no secret that I look forward to the Oscar’s every year!  I have a lot of fun making my predictions and my favorite part is of course checking out each actress’s dresses.

Make watching the Oscar’s this year extra special by having a Glitter and Champagne Oscar watching party! Here I made the champagne sparkle by toping off each glass of champagne with gold edible stars. The carbonation in the champagne makes the stars dissolve fast but leaves it extra sweet and sparkly. If you prefer more sugar or just want to garnish your champagne glasses even further, color some sugar with gel food coloring and rim each glass with it before pouring your champagne.

After making meringues and letting them cool completely, I made them sparkle by spraying them with gold and silver food coloring spray.

To add another dessert to the mix (and an easy one) I took strawberry flavored marshmallows and dipped them in white chocolate. After the chocolate hardened I decorated them with the gold edible stars to bring in the Oscar’s theme to the spread.

Champagne pairs extremely well with fresh strawberries so I recommend having some as part of your spread!

Finally, don’t forget the popcorn! Pop your favorite flavor or create a popcorn station with different toppings for your guests to flavor their popcorn to their liking. Butter and salt are always good to offer but you can also have garlic, rosemary, powdered cheddar, paprika, olive oil, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

Have a yummy time watching the Oscar’s this Sunday!

Scarf Tying Tutorial: The Parisian Flower Petal

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY WOOERS!

My Valentine’s gift to you all is a scarf tying tutorial! If you liked how yesterday’s scarf was styled now you can try it out!

The Parisian Flower Petal

DSC_0589

Step 1: Grab two corners on opposite ends of your scarf. For example, the top left and bottom right corners. Bring those corners up towards your head and let the middle of the scarf drop. This will create a twist in the middle of the scarf.

DSC_0650

DSC_0598

Step 2: Bring the two corners you have been holding up and behind your neck.

DSC_0664

Step 3: Pull the scarf around your neck by bringing each corner to the opposite shoulder.

DSC_0610

Step 4: Keep pulling the scarf around your neck as you bring the scarf back to the front.

DSC_0670

Step 5: Continue pulling the scarf to the front until each corner is slightly longer than the middle of the scarf. The corners should be an equal length.

DSC_0619

Step 6: Take each corner and tie a knot towards the middle of the scarf.

You don’t have to sacrifice fashion or your personal style in order to be professional! Change up the boring black or grey suit by pairing interesting textures or colors when you dress for the office. Adding a youthful pink pencil skirt with a rich tweed texture, like shown above, along with a deep cobalt blue button down really makes for a much more stylish outfit than a typical white on black uniform. You can further accessorize by adding earrings, a belt, a statement necklace, or a statement bracelet. If you do choose to add a statement necklace where a low heel to balance out the outfit and keep the professionalism. You can always add pumps if you plan to go out for drinks after work!

Posh Denim

Here it is! The third inspiration on how to style a denim shirt! (Take a look at Inspiration One: Denim and Sequins and Inspiration Two: Denim on DenimThis outfit was a lot of fun for me. Personally I think black skinny jeans are very faltering, on anyone, and they give you a more dressed up look. I love putting on these high heel booties and the black sunglasses always make me feel like a million bucks. Now if I had a million bucks that would be even better!

Denim on Denim

This look is one of my favorites! I think it’s stylish yet comfortable for a Saturday on the the go. The riding boots and crossbody bag help break up all the denim and give you something interesting to look at. I also paired this outfit with some fun gold and light turquoise jewelry from Banana Republic. This is a jewelry set I usually have a hard time styling with so I was excited when I realized I could combine it with this denim shirt! This look is what I consider an All-American look.

Denim and Sequins

The return of the denim shirt is here… I have to say I was a bit hesitant at first (soooo 90′s) but now I am in love! Denim is so versatile and in shirt form it really mixes things up! If you have one of these in your closet, or are looking to get one but are at a loss on how to style it, here is a little inspiration!

This is the first of three looks I will be posting in the next couple of days. So come back to see how else I style the same denim shirt! You have to get good use of your wardrobe!! ;)

Love mixing a casual laid back shirt with sequins. It let’s you use those special occasion skirts a little more often. Try wearing this combination on a date or cocktails with the girls!

Olympic Pancakes

The 2014 Winter Olympics start this Friday! What better way to celebrate than with a breakfast of champions!

Olympic Pancakes

Considering the games run during the month of February I couldn’t resist making the Olympic Rings into hearts. Heart shaped pancaked are always more fun anyway!

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

Olympic Pancakes

These were super easy to make. All you need is pancake mix (I used Bisquick), milk, eggs, food coloring (blue, yellow, black, green, and red), and a heart shaped cookie cutter. Mix the pancake mix with the milk and eggs (following the directions on the box). After you incorporate the ingredients divide the batter into 5 different bowls. Add a few drops of a different color of food coloring to each bowl and mix. Place your cookie cutter on your hot & greased skillet. Add about 1/4 cup of colored pancake batter inside the cookie cutter. Cook until the edges are dry, remove the cookie cutter (you may need to use a toothpick to release the pancake from the cookie cutter), and flip. Cook until golden. Repeat for each color!

For me the Winter Olympics are my favorite. The figure skating, singles and doubles, always has me glued to the television. I can’t get enough of the pretty outfits, the music and how graceful the ballerina’s on ice are.

What is your favorite Winter Olympics event?

I will forever bleed Colt’s blue but this year I will be cheering on the Denver Broncos. Follow along this week as I post Super Bowl outfits in support of Peyton Manning for a Super Bowl XLVIII win. The concept is to use Broncos Orange and Colts (Royal) Blue.

I remember exactly where I was and my insane reaction, of crazy high pitched screams, when Manning lead the Indianapolis Colt’s to their first Super Bowl win. I was so disappointed I couldn’t join the celebration with my family and friends in Indy but it wasn’t any less exciting or memorable. I also remember how devastated I felt when the team lost against the Saints in the 2009 Super Bowl but you move on and look forward to the next season. In 2010, the team once again gave us all hope of another Super Bowl. My husband took me to not only my first game at Lucas Oil Stadium but also my first playoffs game for our sixth date that year. I was ecstatic, it was and continues to be one of the best surprises anyone has anyone ever given me. Unfortunately, the night was not so lucky for the Colts as the New Jersey Jets came back with a vengeance from their previous year’s playoffs loss to the Colts. Again, after a few days you recover and look forward to the next season…Little did I know that game had been Manning’s last as a Colt. When the announcement was made I was certain there would be rebellion on the streets of Indianapolis. I was so upset and still am to be honest.

It has been almost two years since the city lost Peyton but he has not lost the people of Indy. We continue to love and cheer ” Go Horse!” for our Colts but many of us have also added the Broncos to our list of teams we watch and cheer for on Sundays. I am one of those people and I cannot wait until this Sunday. Peyton Manning deserves another Super Bowl win and him winning with the Broncos will with no doubt bring me the same joy I felt back in 2007. Good Luck Peyton, we are all cheering for you!

Shorts: Dressy & Formal?

DSC_0127

Today’s post is my take on dressed up shorts! I do think in order to accomplish this you need to start off with shorts that are ornate, have a tailored look, or are made from richer fabrics. Anything made from delicate fabrics, or resembling dress pants, to shorts embellished with a bit of sparkle will work. Depending on the occasion, day  time versus night time, will determine what tops, shoes, etc. you  choose to style with.

I love Saturday mornings with my husband. We usually start of lingering in bed discussing a variety of subjects and playing with our tiny maltese. Typically, the day follows with a Starbucks request from me. We like to go to the one down the block from us before we begin the day’s plans. This Saturday, however, was a little different. Instead of running errands or heading up to Allen, to check out the progress on the house we are building, we decided to take it easy. Naturally, Starbucks was still on the day’s schedule so we decided to walk down to the one on McKinney and Howell St. After a twenty minute walk we got some chocolate chai tea lattes, and sat outside to people watch. During the time we hung out there we saw three girls pass us wearing different combinations of silky blouses, sweaters, cute shorts, tights, and some form of heels. One of the girl’s outfits was particularly well put together and caught my eye so I turned to my husband to ask what he thought of the look. He responded with a quick “I don’t really like it”. I then asked why and he said he was confused by the tights and heels. He later stated he thought shorts were casual and could not be classified as formal or dressed up. Of course I tried to convince him otherwise, was unsuccessful and was forced to agree to disagree. Hey, we are all entitled to our opinions!

Question: Can shorts be casual and/or formal? I would love to hear your take on it! Leave a comment below and don’t forget to follow Style Woo!

Style Tip: Make Color Do the Work!

Colors help us express who we are and how we feel. Styling outfits with bold colors can help us demonstrate our fun personalities as well as exude confidence and creativity.

If you are afraid of wearing bold colors start out by incorporating them to your wardrobe through your accessories. Begin by choosing neutral colors for the foundation of your outfit, like black pants and a tan top. Then add a colorful scarf or necklace. This allows for the color or colors you have chosen to really stand out. Continue accessorizing with your chosen color(s) by adding earrings and bracelets. Pops of color go a long way!

Rock Out in the LBD!

DSC_0020

Happy Tuesday wooers! January is almost over but don’t let that keep you from continuing on with your New Year’s resolutions. Eating healthy and new exercise regimens tend to get more difficult as the buzz on resolutions dies down. Find new ways to inspire yourself to keep going.

I like to motivate myself by pulling out the trusted Little Black Dress out of my closet. I usually pair it with some chic high heels (to make me feel ultra sexy), pink lipstick (to feel extra girly), and always some jewelry. In this case, my favorite piece of jewelry are the cute LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s rhinestone bow earrings.

DSC_0017

To liven up this traditional ensemble I added some funky fishnet tights! These are very rock glam. I love the bows!

For the “I am on top of the world” feeling add some killer shades and you are ready to rock the rest of January, your resolutions, and maybe even the Grammy’s. ;)

Picnic-Style Rehearsal Dinner – Style Me Pretty

Check out this amazing styled shoot featured right now on Style Me Pretty! My husband and I had the honor to work with and admire a group of amazing artists this past August. The evening was so much fun and delicious! (mmm!) They all are truly, truly talented and I could tell they all love and have a passion for what they do.

Thank you Tracy Melton Artistry for making us girls look so pretty. Tracy really did her homework before the shoot! She came to the shoot prepared with photos of each girl (none of us had met her before…thank you Facebook). She also had inspiration photos of celebrity hairstyles and makeup she thought would best suit each one of us.

Check out the amazing husband and wife team at Ben Q. Photography. The two of them are so sweet and Christina really makes you feel like she is one of your girlfriends. I enjoy following them on Facebook and seeing what new creative shoot they are up to each week. Creativity runs through their veins!

Aren’t these florals by The Southern Table to die for?!

It is currently 60 degrees and sunny in Dallas, TX, but by the end of this next week we will drop 20 degrees. I find you basically have to keep both your fall/winter and summer/spring wardrobe pieces out in order to dress for that particular day. It is the beauty of living in Dallas.

Regardless of where you live everyone can incorporate their warmer weather clothes into their winter wardrobe. You can do this by layering and adding new accessories.

  1. Keep several leggings in stock. They come in different colors and patterns. Pair them with shorts, skirts, or dresses. I am currently obssesed with fleece lined leggings. (Wooed)
  2. Blazers can go over virtually any top. They really help with reusing all those cute summer tops.
  3. Scarves not only keep you extra warm and cozy but they act as the outfit’s main accessory.
  4. Cardigans are also great to keep in several colors and layer on top of all those skimpy spaghetti straps.
  5. You can turn floor length maxi dresses into skirts by adding a sweater or button up and cardigan on top.
  6. Don’t forget the boots! Booties, knee high, below the knew, riding, and cowboy boots. I love them all!

Ooo, the first post! I would like to begin Style Woo with an an outfit that really displays how I feel, bold and inhibited. I think this really did the trick. A traditional (yet sexy) white button up shirt paired with bold red jeans, sexy leopard print heals and a statement necklace. To add back softness and femininity to the outfit I added a skinny patent black leather belt and a black and tan hand clutch. Honestly, I would wear this on any given day. This outfit is great for a happy hour, a lunch date, or a day of meetings.
Style Tip: Swap the heels for some leopard flats.
